The Avant Garde Project is a series of 20th-century classical, experimental, and electroacoustic torrents digitized from LPs whose music has in most cases never been released on CD, and so is effectively inaccessible to the vast majority of music listeners today. This is wild stuff, so check it out if you've never heard this sort of music before. The analog rig used to extract the sound from the grooves is near state-of-the-art, producing almost none of the tracking distortion or surface noise normally associated with LPs. AGP1-157 are now available for direct download in the archive at www.avantgardeproject.org AGP158-162 and other AGP installments are also available at http://thepiratebay.org/user/loudav ======================================= The AGP celebrates a new year with a new transcription of the original LP release of Luciano Berio's Sinfonia (Columbia MS 7268), conducted by the composer and performed by The Swingle Singers and the New York Philharmonic. This LP was transcribed originally for AGP83, but this new transcription is 24-bit, 48 kHz and is the first using our new state-of-the-art tonearm, a Linn Ekos SE. In comparison to the 26-year-old Ittok tonearm used hitherto, the Ekos SE gives a more realistic sound, revealing more detail with more solid bass and a more stable sonic image. To celebrate the sonic improvement, coming installments will include new 24-bit transcriptions of favorite works from earlier installments (including a new transcription of Mauricio Kagel's Acustica, which was the inspiration for the whole project), intermingled with some interesting new material as well. The installment includes a PDF file with scans of the liner notes from the LP. 01 - Luciano Berio, Sinfonia, Side A [11:35] 02 - Luciano Berio, Sinfonia, Side B [15:24] NOTE: To the best of my knowledge, these recordings are not currently available commercially. If you know otherwise, please let me know ASAP, as I do not wish any artists to be deprived of the royalties that they so richly deserve.
